HRS 108: YOU AND YOUR SUPERVISOR: CREATING AND MAINTAINING A HEALTHY RELATIONSHIP: The relationship a career professional has with his or her supervisor is probably the most important relationship he or she will have at work. No matter what position an employee has in the organization, it’s to his or her advantage to get along well with the supervisor. This program offers concrete suggestions career professionals can use to help them establish and cultivate a positive working relationship with their supervisors and those who report to them. It examines different working styles of supervisors and suggests strategies for career professionals who want or need different amounts and styles of supervision. It describes five personal characteristics supervisors expect in direct reports and two basic rules of thumb for using the supervisor’s time efficiently. This program also emphasizes the importance of good communication with the supervisor and offers 12 practical and specific tips for building the supervisory relationship. Finally, this program suggests strategies the career professionals can use when they disagree with their supervisors.
